How to read these docs
Melon is a local-first encrypted workspace. Daily work happens in the desktop app. The website manages account access, downloads, licenses, plans, and team state.
If you are new to Melon, read in this order:
- Getting Started: download, create a Vault, and start organizing content.
- Security and Data Storage: understand encryption, service boundaries, and where data lives.
- Sync and Restore: understand local-sync folders and S3-compatible object storage.
- Billing and Plans: choose Free, Plus, or Team by capacity, sync, and collaboration needs.
Core concepts
- Local Vault: your primary data directory, placed where you choose.
- Encrypt before sync: content is encrypted locally before sync, restore, or team collaboration.
- Melon service boundary: the service manages accounts, licenses, plans, teams, members, permissions, and required metadata. It does not store plaintext materials.
- Team Vault: a shared workspace in the Team plan, authorized through member permissions and key envelopes.
Page responsibilities
- Installation and Activation: platform installation, first launch, and sign-in.
- Account: account usage, visible account data, and service boundaries.
- Team Vaults: team roles, shared Vaults, and encrypted collaboration.
- FAQ: short answers that point to the right detailed guide.
