Common questions from Nokuo customers.

Is Nokuo a web app or a desktop app?

You will usually use Nokuo in the desktop app. The website is for accounts, subscriptions, downloads, and help docs.

How is Nokuo different from 1Password or Bitwarden?

1Password, Proton Pass, and Bitwarden are password managers built around passwords. Nokuo is an encrypted workspace for developer resources that also holds database connection strings, SSH private keys, code snippets, project configs, and docs, organized and searchable by project. How is Nokuo different from Notion or Obsidian?

Notion and Obsidian are knowledge bases / note apps, not built for secrets. Notion is not E2E and platform-side access is possible; Obsidian is local but has no built-in encryption. Nokuo is built for keys: local-first encryption, sync sends ciphertext only.

Can Free be used long term?

Yes. Free is not just a trial gate. It lets you get started and add multiple content items, but workspace capacity is limited.

How do I know whether I need a larger plan?

If you are likely to hit capacity, sync-and-restore, or history needs soon, adjust when the usage calls for it.

Does the service store plaintext content?

No. See Security and Data Storage for the full boundary and Encryption for the details.

Where is my data stored?

Primarily in the local Vault folder you choose. For sync options, see Sync and Restore.

Can I avoid S3 and use a local sync tool instead?

Yes. iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Syncthing, Feiniu, NAS sync, and similar tools fit the local-sync folder model.

Can I use Cloudflare R2, Aliyun OSS, or MinIO?

Yes. Nokuo's object-storage sync is designed around S3-compatible APIs.

How do I fill in the S3 settings for each provider?

See the provider table in Sync and Restore. It breaks down endpoint, region, and bucket setup for Aliyun OSS, AWS S3, Tencent Cloud COS, Qiniu Kodo, Volcengine TOS, and Cloudflare R2.

One important note: Cloudflare D1 is not S3-compatible object storage, so it is not part of this sync flow.

Which plan should I start with if I just want to try it?

Start with the basic plan. Adjust later based on capacity and sync-and-restore needs.
