Getting Started
Recommended first steps for Nokuo.
1. Download the desktop app
Download the build that matches your operating system and install it. For platform-specific notes, see Installation and Activation.
2. Create or open a Vault
New users should create a new Vault first. Existing users can open the local folder that already contains a Vault.
The Vault is Nokuo's primary data directory. It can be a normal local folder or a local-sync folder. For the full storage boundary, see Security and Data Storage.
3. Set a master password and save the recovery key
When you create a Vault, set a master password and store the recovery key safely.
- The master password unlocks the Vault locally.
- The recovery key is the last-resort recovery mechanism.
- The Nokuo service cannot recover your plaintext master password for you.
4. Start organizing content
After the Vault is created, you can write documents, import materials, organize content, and store keys or common settings.
5. Choose the next step
- Need cross-device sync or restore: read Sync and Restore.
