Getting Started
Recommended first steps for Nokuo.
1. Download the desktop app
Download the build that matches your operating system and install it. For platform-specific notes, see Installation and Activation.
2. Create a new Vault
Choose an empty local folder as the Vault root. Nokuo stores your encrypted data in that folder.
The Vault is Nokuo's primary data directory. It can be a normal local folder or a local-sync folder. For the full storage boundary, see Security and Data Storage.
3. Set a master password
After the Vault root is created, the app guides you through master-password setup. The password is only used locally and cannot be recovered by the service.
- The master password unlocks the Vault locally.
- The recovery key is the last-resort recovery mechanism.
- The Nokuo service cannot recover your plaintext master password for you.
4. Save the recovery key
After the password step, save the recovery key offline. It is the last way to regain access if the master password is lost.
5. Open an existing Vault
If you already have a Vault, opening it takes you to the unlock screen. Enter the master password to continue, or switch to the recovery-key flow if you forgot it.
6. Enter the workspace and start organizing resources
New Vault creation goes directly into the workspace. Start by gathering the common projects, accounts, databases, API keys, and configs in one place, then move on to import, sync, and export.
